Gimme Some Skin

I wore a sheer top with only a bra underneath out one night last weekend. More provocative then my usual attire yes, but it was black and my skirt underneath was high-waisted and ultra-long so only a bit of skin showed and it was covered. My girlfriends thought it was cute or didn't even notice but my friend that's a guy thought it was crazy I would wear such a thing. But you know, the sheer trend has been around for awhile now and my attempt at it was pretty subtle compared to some. Ahem:
At least she didn't forget her socks...But anyway, I don't actually want to discuss the fact that this Italian fashionista (who has been popping up around the blogs for awhile now) wore such a get-up to an afternoon lunch in NYC. I want to talk about skin in general. It's everywhere! I posted about my obsession with but fear of wearing cutout dresses a bit ago and since then the trend has skyrocketed. Bits of skin, whether shoulders, rib cages, stomachs or backs are peaking out all over the place. And just in time for winter. I almost bought one in Manchester but I chickened out at the last minute. But maybe by the time spring rolls around I will own and feel confident enough to wear such a thing. I did just join the gym and this might actually just be a blog post to motivate me to go there this afternoon. :)

The Blue and the Gold

My swim team colors growing up were blue and gold (see there I am in my speedo) and aren't they the California colors as well? Why yes they are. Pairing the two bold primary colors has always seemed appropriate when it came to flags and athletic teams, but not much else. Right?

Until now that is — this season I have been seeing the traditionally sporty and patriotic pair popping up all over the streets and the runways. Despite my initial ingrained hesitation, I am actually pretty into it. And if the color block combo is too bold for some, the mustard yellows and cobalt blues on their own are doing it for me as well. How do you feel about the blue and the gold?

Shoulder to Shoulder

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that the fashionable people don't seem to like putting their arms into sleeves anymore? All the usual culprits are doing it — Kirsten, Alexa, Joanna, the fashion bloggers, the girls on the street and the girls at the shows — just resting their coats on their shoulders without a care in the world. How do you feel about this nonchalant coat placement?

Berlin Fashion Week: The Good and the Bad/Ugly

I went to two shows today. One was good albeit a bit predictable with mostly "in" trend items that we have been seeing for some time (hello pleated leather shorts, love them, but they are nothing new). So although it was good and did excite me, it was going with trends and not creating them — and isn't that what fashion shows are for? Anyway, it certainly knocked the other line out of the water, I mean unless you are really into raver culture. Can you tell which is which?

Fall Wish List #4 Camel Coat

I know, I know, how trendy can I get? But I want one and have been searching for awhile now. Sadly I used to have one, but it was lost in the great pre-Berlin clothing purge. Even so, it wouldn´t be warm enough for the German winter on the horizon.
I have such a hard time when it comes to coats, I have never owned the perfect one for winter. I always end up buying a bunch of cheap used ones that are not quite right and end up hating them by the time the winter is over (maybe for other reasons?). Finding the right style and the fit is harder for me then finding a pair of well-fitting jeans. So this year, I am on a mission to find the perfect coat and I am not giving in before I do. I have already turned down a few I might have bought before, because they were not absolutely perfect. I am liking this cape coat found worn by German blogger Golestanah — it is from Zara so it`s doable but it also might not be warm enough and I always prefer to buy vintage if possible. Have you found the perfect coat?

Chunky Knits

Since it seems that fall decided to start in August this year (WTF!), I have had autumn attire on my mind. Or maybe it's because I told myself I could not buy anymore clothes until I needed to shop for the new season or a curse because I did (these striped bad boys). Anyway, this year (as usual) I will be all about the big knit comfy sweaters — sometimes worn as dresses and sometimes not — and it looks like the mainstream fashion world has decided to join me. Hopefully I can find the thrift store version of this amazing Stella McCartney number. And I am totally into this continuing tan, camel, nude, whatever you want to call it trend too and will be jumping on the bandwagon and purchasing a camel coat as soon as possible.

P.S. Still to do this day I have not been able to find the perfect long coat that makes me happy ever time I slip into it. Hopefully this season will be it.
