My Daily O

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden have a beer with Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr., second from left, and Cambridge, Mass., police Sgt. James Crowley at the White House on Thursday, July 30, 2009.

Been listening to a lot of NPR lately, and this story has gotten so much airplay. Read more here.

Nostalgia

Been looking forward these days, but at the same time looking back, as usual. By character, I am more of a looking back type of person - clothes, decor, but not most blatantly, yet most apparent to myself and those who know me best, I am always searching through my past for answers to my future. Today I looked at my myspace page for the first time in awhile - oh how times have changed - and thought I would share a little bit of what my past (at least my NYC beginnings) really looked like. Well, in complete vanity, what I really looked like. I mean, they are my old profile pics. You know, a little reminiscing (for my grandchildren) before I leave it all behind for the Motherland...

The Life of a Strange Girl

Good Question.

Thanks Now Voyager.

I Heart Mad Men

God I am obsessed this show, and it's not just because Don Draper is the dreamiest man ever, Joan is pretty dreamy too. I just watched the last six episodes of Season Two, yes six, nothing better than that and some fudgicles for a hungover day. So now I am all caught up, I think I might have to get cable so I can actually watch the next season. All of it is just so good, from the clothes to the constant smoking and drinking to the plot that actually drags on, in a good way, making you watch, well, six episodes in a row. If you haven't taken part, you should.

Forward Thinking

The thought just came to mind that when I return from Berlin the beloved summer days of mini-dresses and short shorts will be gone and fall will be creeping in. As much as I love showing off some skin (preferably leg) and soaking in the sun, there is something magical about those first days when the crisp cold calls for a jacket and scarf. (Note: I said the first days) This look, from the pea coat to the awesome glasses and shag bangs, embodies something that will make it okay to return. Maybe.

My Competition

Here are some street style pics from the S/S 10 Fashion Week in Berlin shot by Stylesightings. Looks like I may need to get some lace tights if I want to blend in (rarely the case). The stockings however were not what drew me to these girls. I like their use of vintage (or at least looking) pieces, from the high wasted 50s-esque skirts to the 80s mini dresses. You know retro gets me every time. Maybe I'll run into one of them in the streets...

Song on Repeat: "Overnight Religion"

My obsession with Kurt Vile and balloons continues with this ethereal image and song to match. Kurt's latest "Overnight Religion" also continues his reign at the top of my summer playlists. I am excited that his first full length album Childish Prodigy will be released Oct 6, the day I return to the States.

Summer scariness and camera tutorials..

Enough About Me...

I find this cute website to be quite amusing...

Now back on track, I decided to indulge my new found insomnia with a late night snack. I rummaged through my refrigerator and found whole wheat bread and honey to be a delightful treat.

The Best BDay Party Ever

Saturday was so much fun, apparently all you have to do is have a pirate themed party and an obstacle course. My old roommate Angel is brilliant. Happy Birthday Love.

Down the Block

Was just talking about how I wish there was a pool to swim in by my house today. Apparently this lovely pool in a river is just a few blocks away from my soon-to-be apt in Berlin. Not bad, eh?

Auntie to Number 3

I feel bad that I haven't blogged about my third little niece that was born on July 3rd in London. Miss Sadie Lake (love the name) is the first baby for my bro Andrew and his awesome wife. Yes another Cahn girl! Pretty crazy for a lady (me) with three older brothers. Here is my other bro Michael on an unexpected but obviously awesome layover in London on his way to Berlin. Can't wait to join him in the Mother Land and then see all my three nieces in Italy!

The Visitors

My best friend Bryn was just in town for a week and it was so nice. The craziest thing about having her in NYC is it just feels like she lives here and we are going out and hanging out normally like we would do if we were always together like we used to be (despite being a writer I am a big fan of run-on sentences). You know, sometimes it takes a second to get readjusted to someone you haven't seen in a year, not with Bryn. It always just falls into perfect comfortable normalcy. Man i wish she lived here.

A Night Out in the Good Ol' LES

My dearest friend Bryn is in town and since she was last here us Brooklyners have not really been up for the proper night out in the Lower East Side drinking whiskey and dancing at St Geromes like we used to do always, but it just wouldn't have been right to not do it with her. Although i did leave much earlier than my normal feeling healthy self would have, it was a good night full off spontaneous dry humping and pant removals. Take a look.
