It's All About the Angles

So I have been in a bit of a slump lately (resulting in minimal blog posts, I'm sorry), I'm certainly not trying to wallow in it but I'll admit that my inspiration has been lacking. But I'll have you know, I am 100% (!!!) ready for it to be over. Positivity, yes, positivity! So one of the happy things that has happened to me lately that should help shake it is one of my friends gave me his old camera. Old to him is amazing and new to me,  I have been wanting a "real" camera since I started this blog and this one is perfect.

So I fancy myself a good documentarian but not necessarily the best photographer, but this bad boy may help with that. I do spend a lot of time looking at beautiful photographs and try to learn from them and feel myself developing a better eye. So on to the real subject of this blog entry: look at these two photos, both of Caroline Sieber during Paris Fashion Week, both shot by talented street style photographers probably within seconds of one another. But don't you think one is significantly better than the other? The top shot shows a bit of her face, more of those fabulous shoes and although it may not have as much of a billow of wind in the skirt and in her hair, I like it so much more. It captures all the right angles, and photography is all about the angles. It's all about timing as well, and I am sure if the Sartorialist's (yes, the not as good, but still good, shot is by him) caught her a moment before or after, his photo would have been as perfect as Candice Lake's.

Or am I totally wrong and it's really just personal preference? Which do you like better?

P.S. Pink and blue, digging it.

Berlin Fashion Week: Runway Inspired Vintage

Green and blue 1960s dress (thrift, Humana, Berlin), leather motorcycle jacket (Humana kids section), velvet boots (flea market, Berlin), bag (Maxx New York)

Taking outfit photos is not the easiest thing in the world, especially when it's in the dregs of winter grayness, and especially especially when my boo is out of town. I mean, who else am I going to subject to such things? I managed to get a co-worker to snap at least one fashion week pic, and luckily I was in my favorite of my selected outfits, beating out some serious leather shorts and fur jackets.

I got this dress right before BFW, and even though it was a little big and I didn't have time to get it taken in (I stick with hemming on my sewing machine for now), I had to wear it. I love everything about it from the silky material, to the bright pattern, the collar and the buttons, and how it reminds me of that Fall 2010 Proenza Schouler dress that everyone coveted, Alexa Chung included. Paired with my fave velvet booties (God I wish they were more comfy) and a biker jacket for some edge, it was the perfect last minute fashion week addition.

Berlin Fashion Week: The Good and the Bad/Ugly

I went to two shows today. One was good albeit a bit predictable with mostly "in" trend items that we have been seeing for some time (hello pleated leather shorts, love them, but they are nothing new). So although it was good and did excite me, it was going with trends and not creating them — and isn't that what fashion shows are for? Anyway, it certainly knocked the other line out of the water, I mean unless you are really into raver culture. Can you tell which is which?

Guten Tag Berlin Fashion Week

Last AW season I got a break from fashion week, but this year I am back in full effect. Starting this evening I will not only be covering the Berlin Fashion Week shows, but the night time party circuit as well. I hate to complain, but I am still pretty tired from my big party weekend in England that I returned from last night, and before that I was still pretty jet-lagged from my trip to San Francisco. Eeek.

But even though I would probably trade it all for a few solid days in bed watching movies and eating pizza in my very unfashionable pajamas, I am starting to get excited to pretty much do the opposite and see what the Berlin fashion world is really all about. I will try to keep you all posted and try to get some pics of my outfits (even though the dude who usually does that is out of town) and some of all those German fashionitas. Wish me luck!

Berlin Street Style

Here is one more photo from Vanessa Jackman (maybe my new fave street style blog?) taken during Berlin Fashion Week in July, because with all this talk of fall and the gusts of wind outside my window, I had to sneak in one last little dose of Berlin summer. Not to mention, this chick's style is enviable and totally doable.

Everyone in Berlin wears H&M, including myself, which was not alway the case. They really are better here, I swear. And the thrift/vintage is not, so for those of us who are not made of money, H&M it is. But the key to wearing the same clothes as everybody else, is making it look like you are not. And this beautiful blonde does just that. Paired with the absolute perfect accessories — clubmasters with chains (uh yes!), chunky gold watch, vintage (I think) brown belt and bag — and the absolute perfect shade of orange lipstick, who would have ever thought that there are thousands of other girls out there who own this little H&M dress.

*This dress may in fact be from Zara, but it is the same deal, just tack a few more euros onto the price tag.
