Summer Highlights: Vanessa and Sheldon's Cancun Wedding

The days have long turned to fall and although I am enjoying the changing leaves, the new layers of clothing on my body and that crispness in the air when I leave my apartment in the morning, I would always rather it be summer. I'm just that kind of girl. This particular summer was an interesting one with ups and downs and a lot of trips to the beach. And since I pretty much dropped off the face of the blogosphere (maybe I'm back?), none of it was documented, until now...

It all started with a trip to Cancun to see my oldest friend (we met in kindergarten) get hitched to one of the wackiest (in the best way possible) guys I know in an all-inclusive resort a la the senior trip I never went on. See, that's him all sweaty and topless on the first night already! So, crazy guys, old friends, some serious sun, and an endless supply of free alcohol, equaled what you might guess: some of the craziest (in the best way possible again) few days of my life. There were pina colada breakfasts in the pool, yoga sessions on the beach, all you can eat eating at the buffet, dancing in the club, night skinny dipping in the ocean and of course a lovely and tear-filled wedding.

Documenting an event where you spend most of your time half-submerged in water with a margarita in your hand is not that easy, as you can see from my photos. But my BFF Bryn and I did try and capture some of our many outfit changes. She is a stylist in LA and has got some of the coolest clothes around. We did pretty well at first, but as the days wore on and the hangovers and sunburns worsened, the photograph taking dwindled. But here's what I got from our kickoff to summer (with a few stolen from Facebook)...and congrats to Vanessa and Sheldon again!

Song On Repeat: "Cosmic Love"

To not write a "Song on Repeat" blog entry about this tune would almost be a crime considering I have been listening to it over and over again on my way to and from work on the subway for a few weeks now. Sadly (or maybe weirdly) this is not an exaggeration. It is not a new song, in fact I was listening to another Florence and the Machines song from the same album on repeat when I first went to Berlin almost exactly three years ago. They are just those kind of emotional, grab you by the heart, dreamy pop anthems that you have to listen to just.one.more.time.

On a side note: Is it a normal thing to listen to one song incessantly like I do? Or is it only a certain type of person that does that? If so, what type is that? I guess I just cant get enough of things I like.

The Best Gift Ever: Vintage Balinese Jumpsuit

My great friend Julia just got back from a trip to Bali, and although I seethed with jealousy every time one of her picturesque shots of a temple or beach came up in my Instagram feed, I have forgiven her for going without me thanks to this adorable blue jumpsuit she brought back. Just kidding of course, but I am pretty amazed by this little Balinese treasure and my friend's amazing eye.

First off, I am a clothes person, I spend way too much of my life thinking, trying on, buying and writing about clothes. And despite what some may think, what should you not buy a clothes person? Clothes. His or her taste is usually just too particular, mine included. But Julia went for it. And if someone did decide to buy clothes as a gift, what would be something most people would not go for?  A vintage jumpsuit is pretty risky — a pants one no less. Not only is it a particular item of clothing not too many people covet, if the fit is just a wee bit off it wont work, (I need not mention the dreaded camel toe). But Julia went for it. She knows me so well, because if anyone loves a jumpsuit, I am that girl. And not only did I love this one, but it fit. The whole thing was just spot on.

So thank you Julia for going out on a limb in the gift giving department with the newest addition to my closet!

PS. Check out my new DKNY wedges, pretty cute right?

Spidey Style!

Ever since I saw The Social Network, Andrew Garfield has been my dream man, an integral member of my hot tub. So of course I would prefer it to be me on his perfectly red suited arm, but since I was not up for the role, Emma Stone will do. I like her. She's got good taste. And yes, they look good together. They might even be giving Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson a run for their money in the most stylish couple race. What do you think?

Where Have You Been?

Hello Friends, it has been awhile, awhile, awhile since I blogged and honestly there has not been much more than a day that has gone by in which I didn't think about and miss my old hobby. Yes, I have intermittently posted a few things about dresses I like or good old Mary-Kate Olsen, but this little place used to be where I documented what was actually going on in my life. The truth is I was uninspired and sad for a few months and didn't have the desire to share much of it or even the fun and distracting things I still managed to do. Then that lifted (it's amazing how that happens!), then I got a new job and my melancholia was replaced with excitement, happiness and a whole lot of work. But now that I am starting to wrap my head around a full-time schedule after almost three years of freelancing, traveling and blogging, I am trying to get back here. Hello. So what exactly did I do these last couple months worthy of sharing...well I:

Biked to Brighton Beach and Drank Beer

Crashed a Law School Prom Dressed as Brenda Walsh

Bussed it to Boston for a Weekend at a Real House

To be continued...

Mary-Kate Goes Dark and Wins Big

My girl Mary-Kate and her sis Ashley took home the coveted Womenswear Designer of the Year award for The Row last night at the 2012 Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards. And she did it as a brunette. Kudos for the hair MK and congrats for the highest honor of the evening ladies!

If you need me this is where I will be...

Off to Cancun tomorrow for a dear friend's wedding. I feel so lucky to get to escape to such a beautiful place. But honestly, I have been so preoccupied with other stuff it didn't even hit me until yesterday when I finally looked at the photos of where we are staying (yeah, that's how preoccupied I've been). My flight is tomorrow morning and I am now officially EXCITED to be with my friends, to not have a laptop to check, to be on the beach and swim in the clear blue water. I remember when they got engaged over a year ago, I can't believe the wedding has come up so quick, can't believe I will be there tomorrow surrounded by so many people I love...

The Great Gatsby: Yes Please!

The trailer for The Great Gatsby is out and it is getting me excited. Directed by Baz Luhrmann of Moulin Rouge (okay) Romeo and Juliet (amazing), I’m hoping it turns out more like the latter. By the looks, sound and music video quality, it seems it is going in that direction. Too bad we have to wait until Christmas to find out.

Googa Mooga Part 3: Brooklyn Details

Here's the last installment of my Googa Mooga festival photo experiment — which is pretty much a lot of people's backsides. But backsides that I was particular drawn to, backsides with style. Take a look.
