Fancy Feet

So since I have already started the day talking about the weird parts of me, might as well roll with it: So I have always been a bit pigeon-toed (a neurotic pigeon-toed person, yes) and I have always stood with my feet all twisted in a weird backwards fifth ballet position. I am well aware of and accepted this other habit of mine — my feet just don’t go the right way — but it still caught me by surprise when I came across this picture this morning. I went to a wedding while I was in SF, and just got sent the link to all the photos. Apparently the photographer thought my weird foot stance was worthy of a photo…

Nuerosis?

So I always have to walk on the left side of whomever I am walking with. By “have to” I mean if I don’t, I feel off mentally and won’t go back to normal until I am in my comfortable left side location. Most people oblige this strange habit/need of mine, while others like to fuck with me about for awhile until they give into the right. And actually people who I spend most of my time with gravitate toward the right naturally and have begun themselves to feel uncomfortable in my walking position. I actually dated a guy for way too long, who never really caught on to my walking habit, that should have been a sign right there.

Anyway, it’s not because of that man walking on the car side to protect the woman (I’m a feminist!) thing at all, and that wouldn’t always be on the left anyway. In fact, I am not sure where this strange tick of mine came from at all, but I will tell you that it is getting worse. This left side infatuation used to be strictly for standing up positions of movement (in fact I have to sleep on the right side of my bed, but I do have logical explanation for that one), but lately it has slipped into my sitting down behavior as well. And I now find myself having to be on the left side of a table at dinner or person at the movies. So, is it the older you get the crazier and more particular you become? Am I becoming (or is this) neurotic? For awhile I thought the older I got the more calm I was becoming. Hmm, I guess we shall see.

The Most Beautiful Place on Earth

Pretty much just happens to be where I grew up. Us Marin kids are truly spoiled in more ways than one. More pics from my fabulous trip (wish I was still there) to the Bay Area to come. Get excited.

A Beautiful Curveball

My friend Miss Diebel just told me that life throws me “beautiful curveballs.” I am not so sure she is right, I mean I really hope she is, but sometimes it feels more like curveballs to the face. But anyway, a month ago there was no way I would ever have imagined that I would be going on a 17 day European vacation this summer, or any amount of days for that matter. But today, my flight was booked into Berlin and out of Rome (thanks for the loan Mikey!) and I couldn’t be more shocked and excited. A week spent in Berlin living it up with my bro, then a few days exploring in Rome, and then a Tuscan Villa with almost my entire family, plus the new baby! God I can’t believe I just wrote a blog about not being accustomed to the finer things in life, I feel like a royal brat right about now. But maybe it is just a wonderfully beautiful curveball.

Nice view, huh?

Come on, let's drive!

Last Night...

...I got to pretend to be Blair Waldorf for the evening (Gossip Girl for you non-believers). I had the not-in-stores-yet, over-priced sparkly cocktail dress (borrowed from work), the over-priced fancy dinner with fine wine, delicacies and mature conversation, even an over-priced room at The Palace Hotel (owned by Chuck Bass), in which we stopped off for a night cap in the marble abyss that is the Gilt Bar before we headed to our turned down beds adorned with chocolate and slippers at the foot. Unfortunately there were no Bass sightings (I know, I know; it’s not real), but it was certainly a treat to entertain my taste buds and imagination in such a way and leave subway commutes, Brooklyn and reality behind for an evening. Even if just for one night, because as you can tell by the way I’m awkwardly standing, I don't think I could ever be completely comfortable with all those finer things in life. But who doesn’t appreciate a little taste? Thanks Mare.

Happy Birthday George Clooney

When I came across this photo I just couldn't resist. Who would have thought this young fellow would turn out to be one of the most handsome and sought after 48-year-olds out there.

The Met Costume Institute's "Model As Muse" Gala

Last night was pretty much fashion’s biggest night of the year and all the celebs, designers and models came out to strut their stuff. To be honest, I wasn’t blown away by any of the dresses really. I feel like designers often go for a very futuristic vibe at this event — which is definitely not my thing — but if I had to pick my faves here they are:
Ashley Olsen

Natalia Vodianova

Mary-Kate Olsen (she always has an honorary spot on the list)

Liya Kebede

Liv Tyler

Kate Bosworth

Kirsten Dunst

Diane Kruger (this is my fave of the faves)

I think Maisie might have a little Marie-Antoinette in her, she is certainly always the life of the party.

Everybody Loves Bowie

Do you ever sit/stand by someone (for those of you who don’t rely on public transportation as your primary means of getting from A to B this may not apply) with headphones on so loud you can hear exactly what they are listening to? I always wonder if these people are aware that everyone knows their taste in music at that moment. Sometimes (when the bass is turned up way too loud) it’s annoying, but other times it’s like you get a little peak into this stranger's life and often it’s quite amusing. The other day their was a girl in a skirt suit blasting hard core techno at 9 in the morning and in the elevator at work this morning (another even more awkward place that this happens) this plaid-wearing, unassuming guy was totally into his David Bowie without a care in the world. Little things like this make smile...
